The boat tour of the tree-lined rivers and canals through the national park affords awesome views and close encounters with the jungle wildlife from the comfort of our cushioned canopied fiberglass boats. The tour of approximately 3 & ½ hours enables you to appreciate the lush flora and abundant fauna of the Caribbean coastal waterways, the "Amazon of Costa Rica".
The animals we often see while on tour are two and three fingered sloths, crocodiles, caiman, river turtles, iguanas, basilisk lizards, monkeys (howler, spider and white-faced capuchin), bats and innumerable tropical, shore and seasonal migratory birds. We also sometimes see river otters, coatis, anteaters and even manatee, jaguar, tapir and macaws!
For cruise ship passengers or for those who only have a day available for a boat tour, we offer the following:
From the Limon Port, you can take a taxi to Moin where we'll meet you to board the boat at 8:30 a.m. We go slowly up the natural rivers and canals to Pacuare, a village along the riverside where an authentic Caribbean lunch is served. We return by boat to Moin at approximately 2 p.m.
The jungle wildlife we often see while on a day tour include crocodiles, caiman, sloths (2 and 3 fingered), monkeys, iguanas, basilisk lizards, river turtles and innumerable shore and tropical birds.
Summer clothes with sandals or tennis shoes are fine for the tour. All our boats have canopies but it is good to have a sun cap and sun block along.

"Fran and Modesto's "Francesca" boat tour is the Costa Rica tour you wish every visitor would take. Unlike some tours which give half of what they promise, the "Francesca" Tortuguero trip gives you all the wildlife, all the relaxation, all the discovery. Most important, Fran and Modesto are the quintessential tour guides.
Their private histories are fascinating, their concern for the environment is heartfelt, and their knowledge of the region is impeccable. And they're recognized by nearly everyone in the area as experts."

"We wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our trip with you to Tortuguero. Even after our remaining time in La Selva, La Fortuna, Monteverde and Quepos, all four of us agreed that Tortuguero remained our favorite. While the animals and the birds are the obvious attraction, your guiding was what brought the area to life and maximized the animals we saw. We have many pictures and many fond memories of our time on the canals".
